Ingredients and Protein
All products use high quality, plant-based ingredients, which have been carefully selected to create a complete nutritional profile.
When it comes to plant-based kibble, ensuring the right amount of protein is only part of the challenge. The other challenge is to ensure that the right amino-acids are present to meet the nutritional requirements of dogs.
Proteins are composed of amino-acids.
There are 10 essential amino acids for dogs and 11 for cats. The essential amino acid that differs between cats and dogs is taurine. Taurine is essential for cats but not for dogs. Cats have a higher dietary requirement for taurine because they cannot synthesize it in sufficient quantities, whereas dogs can synthesize enough taurine from other amino acids. But some dog kibbles are supplied with extra taurine nonetheless.
There are 2 key ingredients used in plant-based formulas and it's Non-GMO soybeans and corn.
Soy is considered to be the best ingredient for dogs & cats from the amino-acid perspective. It has high protein content and a well-balanced amino acid profile. There is more arginine, histidine, lysine, methionine, threonine and other amino-acids in soy than in meat-based ingredients. Learn more about Soy >
Corn supplies many essential nutrients to dogs and cats. Corn is easily digestible and is packed with essential amino-acids, proteins, carbohydrates and anti-oxidants, and overall provides balanced nutrition to domestic animals. Learn more about Corn >
In addition, sunflower seeds, peas, lentils, peanuts and many other ingredients and vitamins and minerals are used in preparing plan-based pet food.
- The base ingredient for Ami dog is corn (no soy) + whole peas, sunflower seeds, with overall protein level of 25%. Plus there are vitamins and minerals added to ensure a complete nutritional profile.
